Summary: Mooney was inbound to SCH RWY 22. On a 6 mile straight in final the pilot saw a remote controlled airplane ahead and to his right at a slightly lower altitude. The UAS then made a climbing hard left turn and passed off the aircraft’s left side. Pilot reported the UAS to be within 30ft of the aircraft, at 1,700 ft. Pilot described the UAS as primarily white in color with red markings on the wing tips. The shape was described as having similarities to a glider with a slender fuselage with an approximate wing span of 8ft. SCH Tower plots the location as the southern end of Ballston Lake.
